Ferdinand de Bruyn Advice for young people. This is advice I never wanted to take – I heard it, but I did not listen. In my younger years, I was also passionate and driven, tossed about by every wind and opinion. I was not grounded in the truth but passionate about true-sounding words. Young person (under 32: let the reader understand), be quiet, sit in the front church pew, read your Bible, pray for your congregation and elders, serve your church with every ounce of energy in your body, and be the first to arrive and the last to leave. Be the best member your church has – an exemplary member – so that the elders may watch over you with joy and not with sighing, for that would be of no benefit to you. 1 Peter 5:5: “Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
